2019年トロント国際映画祭出品作品。2020年イギリス公開。A24配給作品。日本では未公開の為、2021年配信になっている。（Wikipedia 『セイント・モード』）

多分に物議を醸し出したであろう作品であり、コロナ禍で話題になった『ミッドサマー』やその前進『ヘレディタリー』の監督作の後に、A24が見つけた逸材。

A24はホラーばかり提供してる訳ではないが、この作品…もうミッドサマーやヘレディタリー見た人なら分かる…A24ぽい！と感じる暗さ、音楽の怖さ。

よくA24は同じような作品を提供してるなと思った。　先日、『X』を鑑賞したばかりなんだけど…怖いなぁ。

早速の感想を…。　あ、ホラー映画ですが動物出ません、死にません。R15作品。

映画『セイント・モードー狂信ー』あらすじ

ケイティと言う女性看護師が呟く。“身体の不調は病気が引き起こすのか…、色んな要因が考えられる”と。

心の中の呟きをはじめ、ローマ・カトリック教徒の彼女はイギリスの海辺の街で民間の緩和ケア看護師として働きます。

患者は、ステージ4のリンパ腫で末期の病気である米国出身のダンサー兼振付師であるアマンダ。看護師のケイティは“モード”と名乗り献身的にアマンダに尽くそうと毎日の業務を果たします。

アマンダは癌を認知はしているものの、抗いたい、死を恐れてもいるとモードに告白します。モードは神を信じすぎ、マグダラのマリアの十字架を下げている。住み込みの自分の部屋には天使や聖書を置いてる。

アマンダは無神論者なので魂を救うことを神が課したのではと思うようになる。モードは、彼女が時々神の存在を感じる事をアマンダに伝え、アマンダも信じるようになり、祈りエクスタシーに達した様な形をとります。

アマンダはバレエ仲間の他に売春婦のキャロルが尋ねた際は、一緒にお楽しみしてるが、モードはよく思わずになるべく優しい口調でキャロルにもう来ないでと伝えます。

モードは献身的になればなる程、アマンダが良くなってると信じ神に祈るのを欠かず、神の声が聞こえると信じる。モードは時々は自分の時間があり、夜に街を歩いていると、元同僚の女性に声を掛けられます。

元勤務先の病院の話をされ、モードに気遣うべきだった…と連絡先を渡します。モードと名乗る前のケイティの前職での嫌な記憶が一瞬、過ります。アマンダの家に戻り数日、アマンダはご機嫌で久々にスマホに触ってモードに買い物を頼みました。

アマンダの誕生日パーティーを盛大に開き、モードは給仕係までこなします。キャロルがその場に招待され、気不味いモード。モードもパーティーしているリビングに呼ばれ、皆の前で、アマンダはモードがキャロルを追い出そうとした事を言います。献身的、心配し過ぎだと。

モードはアマンダに信仰者だと晒され、ベールのように布を頭からかけられ揶揄われてる状態に。アマンダを殴り、仕事を解雇されるモード。　モードは寂しさからパブを訪れ、トイレで見知らぬ男性の相手もするが、誰もがモードを拒絶するように仲間に入れない。

1人の男性と一緒に家に帰り、セックス中に前職の患者の死のフラッシュバックに苦しみ、モードを苦しめます。前の患者にした様に男に心臓マッサージをする様に胸を叩いてしまいますが、その後狂気の雄叫びをします。

彼はモードに大丈夫と慰めますが、最期まで事に及び、嫌がらるモードと済ませます。男は彼に、モードの元彼と付き合ってるのを見て自分は元カレの友人だと言い、彼女を嘲笑します。

　帰って神の声が突然聞こえるモード…。私は何をすれば良い？何か指示を…と神に言いますがモードに告げられたのは………。

映画『セイント・モードー狂信ー』感想

『ヘラディタリー』の前にA24が提供した…配給した作品。もうこの時からA24はホラー三昧だったのかなと思う。ミッドサマーから…ヘレディタリーからしかA24を知らないが、本当にこういうドロドロした音が気持ち悪い暗いホラーが多いな。　ホラー以外も作ってる筈だが。

とりあえず感想を最初から書いていこう。　冒頭はちょっとお洒落な？ストーリーの始まり。イギリスの街並み、少し暗めの処を歩きつつもモード（ケイティ）の語りから入る。“この身体の不調はストレスか胃腸炎か…”みたいな感じの語り。

　ケイティが前職、青い制服の看護師の通う病院であった“何か”は語られていないので、そこは視聴者にお察ししてねと言う作りになっている。ケイティがモードと言う偽名の存在になり、神論者になり、神に浸っていく。その存在を感じたとするモードが常に、気持ち悪さが尽きない。

モードはアマンダに信仰を押し付ける訳ではないが、アマンダもモードに“解った気で”同調してあげる。多分、年老いたアマンダは色々経験者でもあり、モードを理解しようとして同調してあげたんだと思う。アマンダの優しさ。

モードはそんな事微塵も考えず、自分の信仰の仕方を押し付ける訳でもないが、オリジナルの祈りかたの様な‘儀式’をし、神を呼ぶ様にしているのをアマンダが真似てあげる。神を“感じた”と主張するモードはあくまでも神なんて感じたと思い込んでる妄想癖としか思えない。

冒頭ではまともな献身的な看護師に見えて実はそうでは無い、盲信的な信者で怖く儀式も、神を感じてビクつくのも、演技かなとすら思う。この中盤いかない時点で私と夫がこれは、モードの虚言なのだろうか、それとも、神と言う名の外国ホラーではお馴染みの“悪魔”が取り憑いてるのでは？と言う話しになった。

モードは兎に角、妄想癖で言ってて実は神の声なんて聞こえてない説が濃厚だったが次第に、中盤にモード…ケイティの元同僚の話しかたでケイティの過去の病院内での失敗があった処からモードはおかしくなったのではと推測。

解雇された後、アマンダの家の近所に行き、アマンダの家の現看護師に自分の身分は明かさず、医療従事者を尊敬してると言い、住み込み介護の事を聞き出す。

　その時の話で、現看護師は「やりがいはある、患者と密になっていく内に…」と言う話しがある。

個人的には、めちゃくちゃ分かる…話しだった。私は今現在、1人で仕事をしている。清掃業でお客さんの家に行く。その際、長年のお客さんとは密になり、ごはんを食べたり一緒に買い物付き合ったりした事がある。その看護師の話だけ、本当に身につまされる話というか…凄く判るなと思った場面だった。

　終盤、“誰が殺されるか？”の話しの予想になった。モードの元同僚や患者のアマンダ、アマンダの愛人キャロルまたは、モードが解雇された後の看護師か？と議論になった。

モードはパブで元同僚に電話し孤独からの助けを求めるし、終盤前にはモードに会い病院の看護師時代にケイティをフォローすべきだったと話すので、元同僚が急に殺られる事は無かろうと思ったのも束の間…！

終盤には推測を上回る展開！急に本当に“神の声”が暗闇に響き渡る。　上記のあらすじに書いた、パブでの後。モードは覚醒したのかと言うほど、今まで感じてた“神”の存在は妄想だったと思うのに！と観客も信じて疑わなかったと思う。

まさかまさかの！“神の声”なんだけど、実はレンタルしてたこの作品、Blu-ray設定は吹替で見てたら…“神の声”だけ‘英語’になったんだよ………。え？えぇぇぇぇぇ？とビックリして、画面を一時停止してBlu-ray設定を字幕にしようと夫が操作したら、Blu-rayのメインメニューに戻ってしまった！

???????と混乱しながらも、無事、字幕も表示の吹替にして（ちなみに私の好みは字幕なんだが、夫は吹替が好き）再生。　多分、あれ、神ではない…。モードがちょっとオリジナルっぽい信仰の仕方してる時に悪魔が来たんだと思う。

神の声が聞こえた翌朝、モードは気持ちを固めてアマンダの処に行くが、その際に元同僚が朝訪ねてきて、その女性はヤられるかと思ったが、モードは話だけして終わった。

　アマンダに会いに行くモード。アマンダが横になって休んでいる時に会話するが…急にアマンダが悪魔の様な喋りかたをしてくる！いや、その前に何で急にアマンダの家に侵入してるの？現住み込みの看護師がいるのでは？と思ったが物語は終盤で、時間もない…。端折ったのか。

まぁ、普通に考えてアマンダの家を知り尽くしてるから合鍵の場所を知ってたのかと思う。　アマンダは神になったのでは無く、アマンダの変な儀式でアマンダこそ悪魔が取り憑いたと思う。モードに聞こえた悪魔の声は、妄想だとしても。　アマンダの悪魔口調もモードの妄想かも？

だが、悪魔憑きにしろ全てモードの妄想だとしてもそれは観客に考える隙を少しだけ与えつつも、モードがすぐさま、アマンダを十字架で刺し殺害するのでアッ！とその悪魔か妄想か思ってる間にアマンダは死んでしまう。

　モード、次の日に、湯浴みをして聖人の様に毛布を纏ったまるで衣装を着て、海岸に立っていた。空には………渦を巻いてるような雲。　雲の切れ目が真ん中が空き、まるで…奇跡の起きる前触れのような雲………。

モードは砂浜で遊んだり戯れたりする人達を見ず、ソレに飛び込もうと…頭から灯油をかけ、周りの人達は阿鼻叫喚してる声が届かず、祝福に見えて喜んで…火を点ける！　それでモード…ケイティは笑ってるような幸せなように見えるが、最後に…一瞬だけ“ケイティ”が映る。苦痛に歪められた顔？これが本当に彼女の素顔………何て終わりかたなんだ！！？

誰が言ったのか、いや、キャッチコピーなのか“ラスト1秒が怖い！”と言われてる。確かにラスト1秒のあのシーンだけでも燃えて叫ぶケイティ…モードが怖い。当然、R15指定作品ですよ。　評価は…星3.5とか4の怖さ！　と…とりあえずとんでもねぇ作品だった。神に盲信するあまり、狂信。

Amanda is an atheist, so I think that God imposed her to save her soul. The mode tells Amanda that she sometimes feels the presence of God, and Amanda also comes to believe it, taking the form as if she has reached a prayer ecstasy.

I was surprised, and when my husband tried to pause the screen and make the Blu-ray setting subtitle, I returned to the main menu of Blu-ray!

??????? While I was confused, I also dubbed the subtitles safely (by the way, my favourite is subtitles, but my husband likes dubbs) and played it. Maybe, that’s not God… I think the devil came when the mode was a little original way of faith.

The next morning when I heard God’s voice, Mode solidified his feelings and went to Amanda’s place, but at that time, a former colleague came to visit me in the morning, and I thought the woman would be beaten, but Mode just talked and finished.
